As scenes like these both on and beside our roads show that harvest is well underway, yet more local wineries have won awards for their outstanding wines.

The 2012 Barnstormer Syrah produced by Alpha Domus from the Bridge Pa Triangle has won the Fesq and Company Perpetual Trophy for Best Medium Bodied Dry Red Wine at the 33rd Sydney International Wine Competition. Master of Wine Rob Geddes is reported to have described the Barnstormer as “class” adding that “it showed off a complex, delicate and vibrant personality – just delicious”.

Also at the Sydney competition another local producer, Trinity Hill, has triumphed. The 2012 Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay came top of the tree, winning the Joy Lake Memorial Trophy for Best Wine of the Competition, the Wine Society of Australia Perpetual Trophy for the Best White Wine and the Schenker Australia Perpetual Trophy for Best Medium Bodied Dry White Table Wine.

These exceptional wines were produced in a difficult and testing season and many congratulations must go to the growers and winemakers involved.

Trinity Hill, Alpha Domus and other award winning wineries are almost on our doorstep. If you stay at Gallery Cottage all these exceptional producers are literally just down the road. Why not come and have a relaxing tasting weekend?
